Where We WorkThe First Voice NetworkFVI has established the global First Voice Network of audio and data broadcasting: the Africa Learning Channel, the South Asia Development Channel, the Southeast Asia Development Channel, the Multimedia Service-Africa, and the Asia-Pacific Development Channel, which all deliver vital information to many millions of people on a non-commercial, humanitarian basis. FVI provides the technological capacity and know-how to deliver locally relevant -- increasingly listener produced programming in -- information to the world's most remote and underserved communities. Topics include (but are not limited to) HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, good governance, human trafficking, natural resource management, food security, and disaster relief. The Africa Learning ChannelIn 1999, FVI pioneered the Africa Learning Channel (ALC), the first-ever Pan-African satellite radio service dedicated exclusively to open access, non-commercial, educational and social development programs. Broadcast on AfriStar, many of the programs on the ALC deal with HIV/AIDS and related issues, and are produced locally and in local languages. Channels in AsiaIn the fall of 2004, FVI launched the South Asia Development Channel (ADC). The channel is broadcasting to all of Central and Southern Asia on the west beam of the AsiaStar™ satellite. The first programs broadcast over the South Asia Development Channel were developed and produced by Equal Access and its partner organizations in Nepal and Afghanistan around reproductive health and teacher training respectively. |
