CTA trainees learn how to find multimedia channel on satellite receiver |
SustainabilityFVI is Committed to Fostering Local Ownership and Leaving Local Capacity in PlaceTechnologyFVI works to ensure sustainability by working closely with beneficiaries, on the ground implementers, local government officials, non-governmental organizations and donors in Information Communication Technology (ICT) platform design, implementation and follow up. The well adapted, low cost technology platforms allow for the long term use of the ICTs at the community level- maintenance needs are low and therefore maintenance costs are low. Audio and multimedia receivers are less than 100USD and computers used to down load data are ruggedized. TrainingAs a result of FVI's comprehensive, local level training, beneficiaries are able to use and maintain their ICT platform to receive partner audio and multimedia content once projects phase out. Working with partners and beneficiaries at the local level in ICT platform design allows FVI staff to identify training needs and devise training solutions to allow for the installation and long term maintenance of audio and multimedia receivers as well as ruggedized computers. Low Cost BandwidthWhile FVI doesn't develop content for partners and beneficiaries, the low cost of satellite bandwidth that FVI provides on its audio and multimedia channels greatly enhances partner ability to continue broadcasting of partner content once projects have phased out. Given the extensive coverage of the AfriStar™ and AsiaStar™ satellites, unit costs for reaching hundreds of thousands or people can be as low as just pennies on the dollar. |
